Safety includes the impact from traffic collisions, but also whether we feel safe or not when walking along streets or in public spaces.

From the Discussion Paper

Safety vision

  • We will work to reduce collisions and road trauma on our transport system.
  • We will work holistically to minimise, and where possible, eliminate crashes that result in death or serious injury.
  • We will also make sure our streets and paths are safe for everyone by improving street lighting, passive surveillance, and well-maintained infrastructure so that everyone feels safe day or night.

Safety objectives

  1. Improve road safety outcomes and create safe streets for all people to walk, ride and drive in Merri-bek
  2. Prioritise, where possible, creating streets suitable for walking and cycling for people of various skills and abilities
  3. Ensure our streets and public spaces are safe for all people and inclusive of all genders, backgrounds, and abilities
