The way we plan and operate our transport system needs to enable everyone to participate fully in society, regardless of ability. An accessible transport network not only supports people with disability, but benefits many different groups like elderly people, parents using a pram or stroller, people using a personal shopping trolley or carrying groceries, and people with short-term mobility issues (such as an injury).
From the Discussion Paper
Accessibility vision
- We will work to make our infrastructure accessible to all within our projects.
- We will advocate to the State Government for change where accessibility does not meet community needs, including level access tram and bus stops, and accessible trams.
Accessibility objectives
- Our transport system enables everyone in Merri-bek to meet their daily needs and to fully participate in our community.
