Our Drainage Infrastructure Fact Sheet will tell you:

  • What the local drainage network is
  • How the local drainage network is different from the main drainage network
  • Why the local drains aren't big enough to manage the 1 in 100 year storm
  • What Council does to reduce the impact of severe storm events on local drains
  • How Council invests in the local drainage network
  • How Council does for local drainage maintenance
  • What locations Council is prioritising to reduce stormwater risks

Council's budget has to consider many things. This includes different types of infrastructure.

Council's Drainage Improvement Plan informs the budget. It includes places with the greatest need for drainage funding. The Victorian Government's rate capping affects how big the budget can be.

You can find more information about Council’s planned drainage infrastructure improvements in the Drainage Infrastructure Fact Sheet on Council’s website.

100 year stormwater flows across the land because the drainage network is full.

Whilst blockages do happen this is not due to deficient maintenance. This is because severe storms generate significant rainfall, runoff, and debris as well.

You can find more information about Council’s approach to drainage maintenance in the Drainage Infrastructure Fact Sheet on Council’s website.

Council is reducing risks from severe stormwater runoff. This includes cleaning and repairs for drains.

Manual cleaning happens for more susceptible pits and streets. The stormwater map also helps to identify these places.
