My property is affected by the proposed stormwater map. What does this mean?

The map shows land that is expected to experience stormwater flows from a 1 in 100 year storm event.

The map indicates where an existing risk exists and is based on land conditions, past storms, buildings, roads, drainage pipes and other infrastructure across Merri-bek City. The map does not create a new risk.

How will the map be used?

The map is used when a landowner wants to submit a development proposal to Council. This is so we can help landowners, building surveyors and architects to keep new buildings and structures away from places where stormwater flows over land. This will help to protect affected and neighbouring land and buildings from the impacts of stormwater flows.

What are the next steps?

Merri-bek City Council has redesignated the updated map under the Building Regulations 2018. The updated map came in effect on 30 November 2023.

Council will manage a planning scheme amendment process in 2024, to put the designated map into the Merri-bek Planning Scheme, as Special Building Overlay Schedule 2. Go to Planning Scheme Amendments | merri-bek.vic.gov.au for further information and updates.
