We are making changes to Tate Park to make it a more inviting place to spend time.
Currently Tate Park in Pascoe Vale is home to a small playground, with older equipment.
We have plans to remove this set of play equipment and create a passive recreation space in its place.

Why are we removing the play equipment?

The decision to remove this play equipment in is line with our Merri-bek Play Strategy. The Strategy identifies the need for removals of play equipment in certain situations. This includes when the play space site is very small and there is an upgrade of an existing play space within 500 metres walking distance taking place.

Playground at Esslemont Reserve

Tate Park is very close to Esslemont Reserve on Somerset Street. Upgrading of the reserve and play space at Esslemont Reserve was completed midway through 2025. The new, larger play space there has a much expanded range of play opportunities, along with an extensive area of nature-based play under the shade of Ironbark trees adjoining the play space.

The walkway that leads from the Avoca Street footbridge along Moonee Ponds Creek has been sealed and extended. This provides a more direct walking route between Tate Street and Esslemont Reserve.
