We are making changes to Tate Park to make it a more inviting place to spend time.
Currently Tate Park in Pascoe Vale is home to a small playground, with older equipment.
We have plans to remove this set of play equipment and create a passive recreation space in its place.

This new space in Tate Park will include:

  • native planting
  • shade trees
  • seating
  • an improved path connection to Moonee Ponds Creek

Why are we removing the play equipment?

The decision to remove this play equipment in is line with our Merri-bek Play Strategy. The Strategy identifies the need for removals of play equipment in certain situations. This includes when the play space site is very small and there is an upgrade of an existing play space within 500 metres walking distance taking place.

Playground at Esslemont Reserve

Tate Park is very close to Esslemont Reserve on Somerset Street. We are upgrading the reserve and play space at Esslemont Reserve in the second half of 2024.

As part of that upgrade project, we are improving the walkway that goes from the Avoca Street footbridge along Moonee Ponds Creek. This will create a direct walking route between Tate Street and Esslemont Reserve.

You might have received a postcard previously with information about our Esslemont Reserve upgrade, and we welcome your ideas and contributions to that project as well. The Final Concept Plan for the Esslemont upgrade has been shared with the community and those works are planned to commence in the next couple of months.

The changes to Tate Park won't start until after we've finished the upgrades at Esslemont Reserve.
