What is Melbourne Water's proposed stormwater map?
It is the 1 in 100 year stormwater map for Melbourne Water's main drainage areas in Merr-bek. These are the areas where there are main drains. In these areas, stormwater flows overland from the Council's upstream local drainage areas to Melbourne Water's creeks and rivers.
Is this a new or updated map?
It is an updated map. There is already a map in the planning scheme. Melbourne Water has prepared the updated map for new information.
How will the map be used?
The 1 in 100 year stormwater map will be used to help land developers, when they prepare proposals to develop their land. This includes planning and building permits.
What to do if developing land in a main drainage area?
Firstly, use the map below to confirm the land is affected by the 1 in 100 year stormwater map. Then, go to Melbourne Water's website to find out more.
What maps are already in the planning scheme?
There are currently two types of maps in the planning scheme, these are 1 in 100 year:
- Stormwater maps for Melbourne Water's main drains in Merri-Bek.
- Flood maps for Melbourne Water's waterways in Merri-bek
These maps can be found in the planning scheme on the Victorian Government's website, by looking for the:
- Special Building Overlay Schedule 1 (SBO1) for the stormwater maps.
- Land Subject to Inundation Overlay (LSIO) for the flood maps.
What is Melbourne Water's role?
Melbourne Water is the main drainage and floodplain management authority for metropolitan Melbourne. These roles are triggered when there is a development proposal on land affected by the SBO1 or LSIO in the planning scheme.
How were the maps prepared?
The map was prepared by [insert text].
