Michelle Guglielmo park is under construction!

14 May 2024

We are excited to announce that a name for the new park at 260 Sydney Road has been chosen!

Earlier this year we created a shortlist of 3 names which were endorsed by Council (Wa dam buk, Michelle Guglielmo and Noogal nganjin) and invited you to vote for your preferred name. We received many submissions, and at the April 2024 Council meeting councillors endorsed the name that received the most votes from the community.

About Michelle Guglielmo

Michelle Guglielmo was both a resident and employee of Council and contributed significantly to establishing the Counihan Gallery as a reputable contemporary arts space supporting local, national and international artists. Michelle was a curator of the Counihan Gallery (located directly opposite the new park) from 2002-2006 until she passed away from ovarian cancer.

Michelle's sister describes her as

"a cultural leader, an advocate and champion of local artists, the key player in the acquisition of the Billy Kelly/Noel Counihan collection, a daughter of migrants, a mum, a warrior in her fight for survival of ovarian cancer, and a significant CALD woman of Merri-bek"

Construction on the park has now started and we look forward to opening the Michelle Guglielmo Park in November!
