Central Coburg Framework endorsed by Council

15 June 2026

After two rounds of community consultation, our updated vision for central Coburg has been endorsed by Council.

Council plans to revitalise central Coburg into a welcoming and vibrant place for people to work, visit and live, full of parks and green spaces while maintaining on the unique character of Coburg.

The updated Central Coburg Framework responds to directly to community feedback received last year, with changes including:

  • Reducing the scale of development of the A1 building on Victoria Street
  • Adding community and affordable commercial and creative spaces
  • More convenient parking locations
  • Improved multi-deck car park design
  • Improved safety and functionality of intersections
  • Clearer and safer cycling connections
  • Safer and more inviting central streets

The framework also now includes development standards to improve outcomes and construction management requirements to minimise the impact on the community throughout construction.

Council also resolved to commence an open Expressions of Interest (EOI) process for local community‑focused organisations to propose ideas for the southern portion of the Council‑owned site at 28 Victoria Street, Coburg (Site A1).

The EOI will invite organisations with a strong local connection to outline how they could purchase, develop and deliver community services and benefits on the site.
