Bolder - Celebrating Merri-bek's diverse older community

Bolder, is a photographic and storytelling project celebrating the lives, experiences and contribution of our amazing, diverse older community.

The project aims to challenge stereotypes of age and ageing and highlight the value, wisdom and contribution older people make to our community.

Ageism, age-based discrimination and negative attitudes around age can lead to elder abuse. We want to ensure that older people in our community are respected, valued, seen, heard and included.

Meet 11 members of Merri-bek's diverse, older community. You can view their portrait photographs and read their stories below.

Merri-bek says no to ageism, and yes to celebrating age!

Celebrating older people in Merri-bek

Bolder was developed in direct response to feedback we received through the community consultations for our Living and Ageing Well Framework. Older people told us they often feel invisible, isolated and undervalued; and the broader community told us that they want to promote respect for older people and to read more stories about them. The Living and Ageing Well Framework is a strategy that aims to ensure older adults are connected, included, respected and are able to live and age well. You can find out more about the Living and Ageing Well Framework below.
