Conversations Merri-bek
Though ideally everyone who could store a bike at home, this is not always the case.
Many building developments do not provide bike parking for residents, apartments and houses may lack yard space, and hoisting a bike up stairs can be completely inaccessible for many, especially if they are trying to store a heavy or electric bike.
In order to remove this barrier that may keep people from riding, we are currently working towards providing cycle hangars in Merri-bek.
Cycle hangars, also known as velo boxes, are shared, secure lockers that can safely store 6 bikes.
These lockers are located on the street, and are only accessible by those who are registered with the program to store their bike in that location.
Cycle hangars are enormously popular in the United Kingdom with more than 30,000 spaces installed across London with long waiting lists to obtain a spot in a hangar.
