We're inviting young people to join the conversation about how to improve mental health and well-being outcomes for young people in Merri-bek.

The conversation started in 2018 when Moreland Rotary approached Merri-bek Council to talk about youth mental health. Since then we have worked together with our partners including local schools, Merri Health, Moreland Police, Youth Projects, and Headspace to focus on initiatives for improving and supporting youth mental health initiatives.

There are compelling reasons for talking about mental health.

Did you know that:

  • Mental health accounts for 16% of the global burden of disease in people aged 10–19 years.
  • Half of all mental health conditions start at age 14 years but most go undetected and untreated.
  • Globally, depression is one of the leading causes of illness and disability among adolescents.

Young people in Merri-bek are invited to complete the Youth Mental Health Survey on this page. Information collected through the survey will inform the agenda of a Merri-bek Youth Leader's Forum on Mental Health to be held in 2020.
