About the new wetlands

We are proposing to create 2 new wetlands at Jacana Valley in Glenroy. The new wetlands will be close to each other at Fran Street Park and Moonee Boulevard Reserve. The project will help to:

  • Improve the health of Moonee Ponds Creek
  • Create cooler, greener spaces for the community to spend time in nature
  • Make the local area more resilient to heat
  • Provide more habitat for local wildlife

On this page you can learn more about the new wetlands, explore the concept plans and let us know your feedback in the survey at the bottom.

How will it work?

Stormwater from the local streets and areas will be collected and filtered in the wetlands. Instead of flowing straight into the creek, the water will travel into the wetlands through existing drains and pipes. Here it will be slowed down and pollution will be filtered by shallow planted areas. Cleaner water will then be released into the creek.
