Milo and his partner

In March-April 2023, Milo and their partner received a bigger 240 litre mixed recycling bin. This bin will be collected every 2 weeks from July 2023 and offers the same amount of space for recycling as Milo currently has (120 litres per week).

A new 120 litre glass recycling bin will be delivered to Milo's home by mid-June 2023. This bin will be collected every 4 weeks (monthly) from 1 July 2023 and is for glass bottles and jars.

If Milo doesn't already have a food and garden organics bin (it used to be called the green waste bin), they will be delivered a new 120 litre light green-lidded bin in June 2023. This bin will be collected weekly from 1 July 2023.

A kitchen caddy to collect food scraps will also be delivered to their home from July 2023.

Using this bin for food scraps and garden clippings will reduce Milo's general rubbish, so they may be able to get a smaller general rubbish bin and pay less.

There will be no change to Milo’s general rubbish bin. They will keep their current bin and it will continue to be collected every week.

As a small household that doesn't have much waste and recycling, Milo can choose to have smaller bins where available. The smallest available bin sizes for each waste stream are:

  • 120 litre mixed recycling bin
  • 120 litre food and garden organics bin
  • 120 litre glass recycling bin
  • 80 litre general rubbish bin.

As a ratepayer, Milo pays the waste charge based on the size of each of their bins. Should they choose to get smaller bins, they will pay a lower waste charge, because smaller bins cost less.

Requests for smaller bins can be made from August 2023.
