Raeburn Reserve is home to the Pascoe Vale Football Club and the Pascoe Vale Hadfield Cricket Club, together they make up the Pascoe Vale Sporting Club.
The Cricket Club host 15 teams at Raeburn Reserve consisting of both Male and Female teams.
The Cricket Nets at Raeburn were built in 1979 with minor upgrades since. They are now at the end of their of lifecycle and becoming unsafe for users.
In May 2024 the State Government announced funding of $175,000 towards the upgrade of the nets, and the Club saw a successful Council Community Budget Bid of $100,000 to go towards the project and have also received a Cricket Victoria grant of $40,000.
As we upgrade the nets, we will be embracing environmentally friendly practices. This aligns with the Merri-bek sports field policy framework.
Key considerations for the design and materials
We are preferencing products made partially from recycled materials
- Through the design and construction phases, we will aim to recycle or reuse existing materials.
- In the nets we will utilise environmentally sustainable materials and elements.
Organic infill for run ups will be used to:
- Lower the surface temperature by around 30%
- Reduce Urban Heat Island effects
- Minimise microplastic pollution on the field
- Allow for reuse at the end of its life
- Decrease the overall carbon footprint.
Preference will be given to synthetic manufactured in Australia. This will reduce carbon emissions from transportation.
