Merri-bek City Council has identified a suburb boundary that requires a minor realignment due to development. The area affected is between Sydney Road and Merri Creek along the Fawkner/Coburg North locality boundary.

It currently runs at the rear of properties historically facing Queens Parade Fawkner, and several properties adjoining this boundary have been built with access from roads attributed to Coburg North instead.

As the naming and numbering authority Council is responsible for the maintenance of suburb boundaries. While locality boundaries are intended to be enduring, in areas subject to development, boundaries should be reviewed and amended where appropriate.

The existing boundary is not compliant and should be realigned to comply with state naming rules, meet addressing standards, to prevent mapping anomalies, assist service deliveries, and emergency service responses.

The Official Naming Rules for Places in Victoria, Section 5.2.1 outlines that ‘In dead-end roads and cul-de-sacs, the locality boundary should wrap around the properties at the end of the road so that all properties accessed from the same road are addressed to the same locality’.

This proposed suburb boundary realignment, if approved by Council, would encompass the identified properties accessed primarily from Coburg North roads into Coburg North. No other addresses will change.
