Moreland City Council is building a new Community Hub at 50-62 Wheatsheaf Road in Glenroy. It is located adjacent to Bridget Shortell Reserve and will be built on the site formerly known as Glenroy Primary School.

The new Community Hub will be home to Maternal and Child Health, Kindergarten and Long Day Care Services, Modern Library, Community Meeting Rooms, Community Health Service, Neighbourhood Learning Centre and Community Garden.

You can find out more about the Hub via the project design and construction page.

Throughout February 2020, consultation was undertaken to seek naming suggestions for the new facility. In accordance with Council’s Naming Moreland Places Policy, any person was invited to submit suggestions.

Submissions had to include relevant information in order to meet the criteria set out in Council’s Naming Moreland Places Policy and the State Government’s Naming rules for places in Victoria – Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities – 2016.

Of the names submitted, four met the relevant criteria and were endorsed by Council for inclusion in the public voting poll.

The following names were shortlisted:

  • Wheatsheaf Community Hub - (the community identify the project under this banner and it provides street geographical recognition);
  • Glenroy Community Hub - (the name identifies where the new community hub is located);
  • Noogal-nganjin Community Hub - (meaning 'we belong' in Woi Wurrung language);
  • Nooneinde Bagora Community Hub - (meaning 'harmony centre' in Woi Wurrung language)

For the use of Indigenous names, Council obtained approval from the Wurundjeri Tribe Council.

All votes submitted via Conversations Moreland will be counted, and the name with the most votes will become the official name of the park, pending approvals. If you wish to object to the suggested names, you can write to us explaining why by contacting property@moreland.vic.gov.au.
