Fawkner Leisure Centre is 1 of 6 Aquatic and Leisure Centres owned by Merri-bek City Council.

A 20-year Aquatic and Leisure Strategy was developed in 2018 to determine the future position of all six Merri-bek Aquatic and Leisure Facilities. Within this strategy, Fawkner Leisure Centre was flagged for redevelopment into a district-level facility due to its age.

We did extensive community consultation and concept planning for this development. A decision was then made based on community feedback and the project cost to deliver the project in 2 stages:

Stage 1—2023 - 2024

Stage 1 of the redevelopment will include:

  • New outdoor 50m pool,
  • Water play pool and associated landscape works,
  • New sauna, steam room and spa as well as pool plant infrastructure for both components,
  • Extension of the gym, new program space, cycle studio,
  • Updated foyer, reception and café lounge area and,
  • An all-electric site, aligning with Council’s zero carbon objectives

Stage 2 - Post 2026 - 2027

Stage 2 of the redevelopment will include warm water program pool, an extension of changerooms, and a new family change hub.
