Express your interest in joining the trial

Complete the form on this page to express your interest in getting approval for a boom-mounted charger installed at your house.

Please read the requirements and make sure you can meet them before applying. An independent assessment to verify these requirements will take place should your application be selected.

After you have completed the expression of interest, and before the independent assessment takes place, you will be sent an information sheet to assist with the process.

Council has partnered with Vehicles Charging Solutions Australia (VCSA), who is the approved supplier for this trial. We will need your permission to share your details with VCSA.

We anticipate that other suppliers will be added to our list of approved suppliers if the trial is successful.

The initial trial is only 20 installations. After these places have been filled you can still record your interest.

  • Boom cannot contact a street tree or overhead wires
  • Building electrics must meet code (this will be checked by installer)
  • Needs to be a suitable location to install post, and a suitable parking bay
  • Property owner will need to sign approval agreements with Council, under Section 121 of the Road Management Act
  • Property must be on a road managed by Council. Link to map showing roads managed by Department of Transport and Planning, All other roads are assumed to be managed by Council.
  • Property cannot have off-street parking
  • Properties can only install a single boom-mounted charging system
  • Properties in heritage zone will need to apply for planning permit. Such properties will not be included in the initial 20 sites but may be considered for future rounds.
  • Trial participants must use a Council-approved supplier for the installation of the charging system
  • Minimum distance between ground and boom is 2.5 meters
  • Boom must be retracted when not in use
  • Participant must agree to complete a short survey for Council post-installation, to help us assess the trial
  • Important to note that installing the equipment does not grant you additional rights to the relevant parking bay
  • Participant must immediately notify VCSA in the event of any damage to the equipment
  • Participant must notify insurers (home and vehicle) and mortgage holder (if any) regarding the equipment
