Council is constructing a new storm water harvesting facility at Dunstan Reserve, Brunswick West.

This project intends to divert stormwater from local areas for treatment and storage. Stormwater runoff from approximately 50 hectares of residential area will be diverted into a new raingarden in the north-east of Dunstan Reserve.

• The treated water will then be used to irrigate the ovals and community gardens at Dunstan Reserve.
• This system is designed to save up to 10 million litres of drinking water each year.
• The raingarden will be planted with native plant species that will increase the biodiversity of the park and provide habitat and food for insects and birds.
• Harvesting this stormwater will help relieve pressure on the Moonee Ponds Creek and reduce erosion.

During the construction phase, we expect that there will be some disruptions made to the immediate area, however, we will endeavour to keep these to a minimum.

Works will generally be carried out between 7am to 4pm, Monday to Friday and are scheduled to commence on 26th August 2024 and be completed by February 2025. A map of the proposed works area is shown below.

To assist Council in completing the works in a safe manner without delays, the project will require some temporary changes to traffic and parking along Everett Street and Bakers Parade. Pedestrian access from Everett Street into Dunstan Reserve will be closed throughout the construction period. We expect that some loud noise will be generated due to excavation activities.

Local residents will be informed by letter before the temporary changes to traffic and parking will occur on-street. There maybe temporary impact on access to property driveways, however, access will be made available outside working hours.

Resident access and emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times, and waste collection will not be affected. Drop-off and pick-up times to the Dunstan Reserve child care centre and kindergarten shouldn’t be disrupted during the works.
