Share your ideas for Merri-bek's Community Vision

Calling all children aged 2 - 12 years!

We need your help to shape our Community Vision.

Merri-bek City Council is refreshing our Community Vision. The Community Vision is how you want Merri-bek to be in the next 10 years. The vision is used as a guide to write important documents, including the Council Plan.

The Council Plan tells us how we will work towards achieving the Community Vision.

You can share your ideas any way you like!

Draw, paint, craft, collage, write, comic or audio record your submission.

Open to any young people aged 2 – 12 who live, learn or play in Merri-bek.

Submit your entries by 5pm Wednesday 12 February for your chance to win a family pass to your favourite leisure or aquatic centre in Merri-bek.

In late February, Council will host a Community Panel and a Youth Panel. These 2 panels will meet to talk about what is most important to people in Merri-bek. Once they decide on these important things, they will share their ideas with Council.

To make sure children’s ideas are included, we will share them with the panels when they meet. They will read, look at and listen to your ideas and include them in their discussions.

There are a few options:

Draw, paint, write, create a collage, comic, poem, song or audio recording of your response. For privacy reasons, we cannot accept video recordings.

Remember to include the child’s first name, age and suburb and the name and email address of the parent/carer.

Go to the Utilities folder of your phone and select Voice Memo.

Record your idea. Remember to speak in a clear voice.

Click on the three little dots and select share. Share your recording to your email.

You can now save this recording from your email or send the recording directly to mthompson@merri-bek.vic.gov.au. Remember to include the child’s first name, age and suburb.

Tap the microphone to start recording your idea. Remember to speak in a clear voice.

Tap pause when you’re done.

Tap the tick to save your recording. Name your recording and tap save.

Select recording from voice memo list and tap the three connected dots to share.

You can select email and send the recording directly to mthompson@merri-bek.vic.gov.au. Remember to include the child’s first name, age and suburb.

Any children aged 2 – 12 years old who live, learn or play in Merri-bek can submit their ideas.

Entries close 5pm Wednesday 12 February, 2025

Submissions can be made via Conversations Merri-bek page or by emailing mthompson@merribek.vic.gov.au.

Judging and prizes

The judges will assess the entries based on:

Creativity – how creative is your idea?

Inclusivity – does your idea consider the needs and wants of the different children across Merri-bek?

Winners will be notified by the end of February, 2025 via the contact details provided.

Rights and usage

By entering your submission, participants grant Merri-bek City Council the right to use their idea for promotional and educational purposes now and in the future. Ideas may feature on Merri-bek City Council’s website, social media or other online channels.

Merri-bek City Council may use the participant’s first name, age and submission for public promotional purposes.

Participant submissions will be displayed at the Community Panel and Youth Panel in February 2025.
