No one left behind

We aim to create a climate-ready, safe, fair and resilient community in Merri-bek, with no one left behind.

Hotter and more extreme weather is already impacting local people, businesses and our environment in a number of ways. While everyone will be affected by climate change in some way, some populations are more vulnerable than others. Extreme weather events can be an added burden for people with other challenges.

Community 2030 Goals proposed:

  • Our community is informed and resilient - Our diverse residents are informed about local environment and climate issues and supported to take meaningful action.
  • An inclusive energy transition - All residents benefit from the energy transition with comfortable and resilient homes, and can pay their energy bills.

Key Actions include:

  • Exploring partnership opportunities with Wurundjeri and First Nations residents.
  • Communicating and collaborating with our diverse community.
  • Continue delivering subsidised home upgrades for low-income households, while advocating for long-term funding to ensure at-risk households across Australia are not left behind.
  • Collaborating to get more shade trees in backyards, schools, and retirement villages, to reduce the impacts of urban heat.
  • Undertaking sustainability outreach and projects to increase climate resilience in at-risk neighbourhoods like Fawkner.
