What we heard previously

In our last round of consultation we received lots of online submissions, and spoke to you in-person at community meetings. You told us you want the public land surrounding Brunswick Level Crossing Removal Project to be pedestrian-friendly, greener, and safe to cycle through.

What we did

In April 2023, Council adopted the Reshaping Brunswick position paper. The paper describes your vision for the Brunswick Level Crossing Removal Project and how it is managed. We've sent it to the State Government to advocate for what our community wants.

We have developed an Urban Design Framework for the streets on either side of the rail corridor. This framework was a commitment we made in Reshaping Brunswick.

The Urban Design Framework was endorsed by Council on 12 June 2024.

About the Urban Design Framework

The Upfield Corridor Urban Design Framework (UDF) focuses on extending the benefits of the Brunswick Level Crossing Removal Project beyond the rail corridor. We want to see a positive impact on the surrounding community.

The UDF explores how Council-owned land can be used to:

  • Make the local area greener
  • Improving its cooling, and enhancing its water management capabilities.
  • Improve how people move around new station precincts
  • Improve access to the new open spaces and shared user paths delivered by the Project.

The framework shows the ideas we’ve been working on – like new parks, paths, seating, art and gardens in land around the rail corridor. These are included as draft concept plans.

Timing

We are preparing the Urban Design Framework before key details of the Level Crossing Removal Project are announced. This includes key dates and the location of stations.

We want to have the Framework ready before the State Government have finalised their plans so we can have more of a say on what the project looks like. Once we know more about the level crossing removal we will review the framework and designs in more detail. The project is broken up into 2 stages:
