We have some exciting news to share about our biodiversity mowing trial!

In conjunction with our research partners, ecological surveying was conducted between October 2024 and April 2025 to compare the insect communities found in our high and low intensity mowing plots.

The estimated number of indigenous insect species found through the sweep netting surveys on the low-intensity mowing treatment plot was on average 5.1 times higher than that for the high-intensity mowing control plot.

We also found a 3.5 fold increase in the number of indigenous pollinator species in the longer grass due to a large increase in the number of forb and other plant species available for them to forage on.

The findings are encouraging and provide further evidence of the biodiversity gains for insect pollinators that can be achieved by transitioning lawns into less intensively managed habitats that are rich in floral resources.
