We're committed to taking urgent action on climate change. It's our adopted goal to be a zero carbon community by 2040.
To deliver on our goal we're preparing a 5 year Action Plan to reduce community-wide greenhouse gas emissions across the energy, transport and waste sectors.
Our targets are:
- Energy transition: efficient and 100% renewably powered energy
- Sustainable transport: active or zero emissions transport
- Waste and consumption: circular economy with zero waste
Between June and September 2019 we consulted with the community to identify projects and partnerships to guide our actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions over the next 5 years.
Consultation on the Zero Carbon Merri-bek Action Plan included an online survey and submission process; community drop-in sessions and targeted meetings with stakeholders.
The Zero Carbon Merri-bek Action Plan 2020/21 - 2024/25 was endorsed by Council at it's 13 November 2019 meeting.
