Updates on the Kent Road separated bike lane trial

7 September 2023

Findings of the multi-channel survey (spanning February 20 - May 2023) on the Kent Road, Cornwall Road to Cumberland Road, Pascoe Vale Separate bike lane trial have now been published. This engagement report provides a high-level overview of the key feedback obtained through the survey.

We thank the community for their patience and feedback as we trialled separated bike lanes along Kent Road in Pascoe Vale. Your feedback has been incredibly valuable,

Making major permanent changes to our transport infrastructure will always be based on best practice advice and the experiences of our community.

At the 13 September Council Meeting, Council officers will recommend that the trial separated bike lane infrastructure is removed by the end of December 2023. The agenda for this meeting can be found on our website.

Council officers will recommend an alternative – a Pascoe Vale Shimmy route to connect bike riders from Glenroy to Coburg, which includes Kent Road between Cornwall Rd and Valerie St. This includes a two-directional, separated bike lane on the south side of Kent Rd between Cornwall Rd and Valerie St.

If this recommendation is endorsed by Councillors, we will seek your feedback through a 4-week consultation period. This will include opportunities to provide feedback online and in-person. We will then report back to the November Council Meeting on our final recommendation.

Our community have told us they support protected bike lanes and want to see more of them.

We are committed to installing more protected bike lanes through our 10-year Active Travel Capital Plan, in appropriate places.
