Making our streets safer

We're working to make it easier and safer for our Merri-bek community to walk and cycle around their local neighbourhood.

As part of this project, over a 12-month period, we trialled a bicycle lanes on Northumberland Road, Pascoe Vale. This trial allowed us to gather community feedback, research effectiveness, and optimise our long-term plans for improving road and cycling safety in Meri-bek.

Separated bicycle lane trial - Northumberland Road, Pascoe Vale

Following a 12 month trial, in which we engaged with you, our community, and traffic survey counts, Council resolved to permanently install the trial separated bicycle lanes in Northumberland Road. The permanent designs will be modified based on feedback and data gathered during the trial period.

These bike lanes, as well as other sites in Pascoe Vale, help create a "Coburg to Glenroy Bicycle Link". This new low-stress cycling route is envisioned to be a connected, safe and efficient route suitable for bike riders of all confidence levels and connects local shops, schools, open space and community facilities.

This page will be updated with more information about the permanent installation of this bike lane as the project progresses.
