We are accepting submissions in support or in objection to the proposed names or name change for consideration.

What is a submission?

A submission is a way for community members to let us know that 1 or more people agree/disagree with the proposed names.

Submissions, including petitions, must include:

  • Your name, address and email address.
  • Specification of your connection to the local community (resident, ratepayer, business owner, other)
  • Proposal and/or reasons for the proposed name(s) or name change being either suitable/unsuitable or supported/unsupported.

Additionally, Council reserves the right to withhold from publishing content from submissions that is found to be racist, offensive or discriminatory.


How to lodge your submission

Any submissions should be made in writing, referencing 'Submission to the Renaming of Moreland' and forwarded to Director, Community.

at:

  • Moreland City Council, Locked Bag 10, Moreland VIC 3058;
  • Delivered to the Moreland Civic Centre, 90 Bell Street Coburg or;
  • Emailed to renaming@moreland.vic.gov.au with the subject header 'Submission to the Renaming of Moreland'.

Submissions have been extended and will now be received by Council until 5pm Friday 24 June.

On Thursday 23 June, Council will also hold a hearing of Submissions at 7.00pm. If you want to attend, please lodge your submission by 12pm Tuesday 21 June.


What happens next

Council will acknowledge they have received individual submissions, however individual responses to matters raised in submissions will not be made.

Personal information will be de-identified (this includes all personal information such as names, address details, phone numbers and email addresses) and feedback will be summarised for reporting purposes.

A summary report referencing the submissions, both written and comments provided at the Hearing of Submissions, will be provided in a report to council, along with evaluated community feedback, and will be shared publicly via this platform, Conversations Moreland.

A hard copy of this report will be available on request through customer service and libraries.


Protection of Privacy

Moreland City Council is committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic) and the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic).

This Collection Notice applies to information collected through this submission process. The personal information requested for the submission is being collected by Moreland City Council for the purpose of seeking public opinion and naming preferences relating to the renaming of Moreland, and to ensure Council can contact you to acknowledge we have received your submission and invite you to register for the Hearing of Submissions Committee.

All of the information that you provide will be treated as confidential and will only be used for this purpose. Your private information will not be disclosed to any other external party without your consent, unless required or authorised by law.

Your personal information will only be handled by the necessary Council staff and will not be widely accessible throughout the organisation.

Submission and survey responses will be summarised for the purposes of a report to Council and will not include personal information relating to the submitter.

We are asking for your personal information to ensure validity of submissions, as well as understand who in the community we are hearing from. You are not able to participate anonymously as we wish to ensure the integrity of this submissions process. Therefore, anonymous entries will not be counted or considered.
