Merri-bek City Council, acting under Section 114 of the Local Government Act 2020, proposes to sell the site at 1/6 Sutherland Street, Coburg, to Aboriginal Housing Victoria as resolved by Council at its meeting held on 10 May 2023.

Aboriginal Housing Victoria

Aboriginal Housing Victoria is an Aboriginal community organisation responsible for managing over 1,500 rental properties for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people living in Victoria. As a Registered Housing Agency, its vision is to ensure that Aboriginal Victorians secure appropriate, affordable housing as a pathway to better lives and stronger communities.

Council is inviting submissions

As part of its Community Engagement Policy, Council is inviting submissions on the proposal to sell its site. Any person wishing to make a submission on the proposal must do so in writing by no later than 5.00 pm on Monday 14 August 2023.

A person making a submission is entitled to request in the submission that they wish to appear in person in support of the submission, or to be represented by a person specified in the submission, at a Hearing of Submissions Committee meeting to be held at a date and time to be determined by Council.

Submissions must be clearly marked “Submission - proposed sale of 1/6 Sutherland Street, Coburg”, with your name and contact details, and should be addressed to Pauline Kiely, Merri-bek City Council and:

  • mailed to Locked Bag 10, Brunswick 3056, or
  • delivered to the Merri-bek Civic Centre, 90 Bell Street, Coburg or
  • emailed to property@merri-bek.vic.gov.au

Following the consideration of any submissions, Council may decide to sell or not sell the site.
