- Why does the centre have to grow
The centre will need to accommodate more children as part of the State Government’s Best Start, Best Life initiative.
The centre will go from 72 kindergarten places to 94 kindergarten places.
The additional 22 places will be for kindergarten aged children.
- Will there still be enough room for the children to play outside
Yes. Merri-bek supports play in the outdoors, we know it is important. There are regulatory standards that govern required outdoor space for children, we will meet or exceed these standards.
- Will the extension to the centre reduce the parking in the area
No, we will not be removing any parking spaces.
During the construction period there may be impacts to parking availability caused by construction vehicles, but this will not be the case once construction is complete.
- Will the construction/expansion affect the use of the centre?
There may be some disruptions during the construction phase. These will be communicated in advance, and kept to a minimum.
- With the increased places in the centre, will there be more staff allocated?
At all times the centre needs to ensure they meet regulatory standards around staffing. An increase in the children will result in an increase in staffing hours.
- Is council funding the expansion of the centre?
Yes. The council is a co-contributor with the Victorian State Government.
- Will this affect enrolments?
No, this will not affect enrolments.
